The single block of vineyards that makes up Château Le Bourdieu Vertheuil stretches across the commune of Vertheuil, which borders Saint-Estèphe. The vines flourish in fine gravel soils on a limestone plateau, perfect for drainage and deep root penetration.
Strict viniculture and tightly controlled yields mean the Bourdieu Vertheuil name is synonymous with elegance, balance and aromatic finesse.
Their 2010 vintage is robust and well structured, with firm tannins and concentrated dark fruit. Earthy on the finish, this is a claret with a bit of heft about it.
It’s also ridiculously well priced – we should be charging £25-ish for something of this age and stature.
