We have been looking for a good but sensibly priced red Burgundy for a while. At last we found it!
Chitry-le-fort is a small village just 12km south of Chablis which was awarded the appellation of “Bourgogne Chitry” in 1993. We can thank global warming for allowing the production of ripe Pinot Noir further north.
Brother and sister Aurelie and Thibault Giraudon run this leading domaine. They produce fresh and elegant wines, that are uniquely Chitry on their 30 ha estate. The wines are aged in stainless steel rather than oak. All picking is done by hand and only natural yeasts are used.
As prices for the big names become increasingly unrealistic this is an absolute bargain – until it gets better known!
