Established in the northern part of Châteauneuf du Pape, the Jaume family has been dedicated to the art of wine growing since 1826.
Alain Jaume, the fifth generation who took the helm in 1979, is still greatly involved, but the management at Grand Veneur, with an exclusive 1.5 hectares devoted to growing Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc, is being gradually passed on to sons Sebastien and Christophe.
Their ‘La Fontaine’ vineyard is the perfect area to produce an outstanding white Châteauneuf du Pape. The plots of clay, sand and limestone are north facing and well aired, which allows the Roussane to ripen very well and also to maintain a superb level of freshness.
On the nose, this wine is rich in aromas of citrus fruit, tropical fruit, quince and honey, with a touch of vanilla. On the palate, the same aromas appear together with a fullness combining exotic fruit and vanilla : the wine is rich, generous and elegant, with extraordinary length.
La Fontaine is often considered to be one of the best Châteauneuf du Pape whites, and it is by definition a superb wine to accompany the finest food.
Drinking now, but will happily age and develop for a good 5 years more- if you can resist it!
