In the early 1950’s, the rising demand for Vintage ports led Fonseca to create a second vintage port under the ‘Guimaraens’ label.
Blended from slightly less powerful components, Guimaraens Vintage Ports are made in years when the wines are more supple and early maturing and are drawn from the produce of the same three estates. They differ only in that they are more approachable and ready to drink earlier. For their quality and rarity they offer exceptional value.
Dark purple, almost opaque with lovely, rich, full, blackberry aromas and attractive floral and liquorice scents. This is a big, very rich and well rounded Port bursting with fruit and with a smooth, silky finish.
Like all bottle aged Ports it will require careful decanting. If you don’t have a decanter, a jug will do just fine. Pour it carefully until you see the sediment moving towards the neck. You should only lose an eggcup full. This is the butler’s share which can be filtered and drunk separately or better still added to a casserole.
