Carmenère is a minor variety in Bordeaux but widespread in Chile. It has been hailed as the perfect accompaniment to curry as the soft tannins don’t clash with spiciness.
Montes Alpha practice ‘dry farming’ a sustainable philosophy whereby they leave nature to provide all water for the vines without irrigation. This not only decreases water usage (. To date they have reduced our water footprint by 65% —equivalent to the average annual consumption of 20,000 people.) but increases the quality of fruit and fullness of the wine in the mouth.
Their Carmenère is a deep and lively ruby-red colour. It shows an elegant, typical Carmenère character, with lovely black pepper aromas, and hints of red berry, chocolate, vanilla and plum. In the mouth it is distinctively smooth, with rounded soft tannins and a long finish. The oak is beautifully integrated and balanced.
