Rainer Schnaitmann is an eccentric winemaking rebel.
He ripped out hundreds of low quality Trollinger vines and planted a huge amount of different grape varieties on his modest 19 hectare plot.
He uses native yeasts and spontaneous fermentation for this Riesling, which is barrel aged in a candle-lit cellar and serenaded 24/7 by classical music to help it mature. (Really! Alice has been there and it’s quite the experience.)
As with all of his ‘Steinwiege’ wines, it exhibits terroir and grape variety with great intensity of flavour and purity. It’s also certified organic and vegan.
