Trefethen is a small family winery and was one of the first dozen or so wineries in the Napa valley. Their holdings are in the sweet spot of Oak Knoll District and their Cabernet Sauvignon is world class.
Their ‘Double T’ range was created to introduce the wider public to their wines and share quality estate lots in a fun blend. It is seldom available in the UK, but we’ve managed to get hold of a very small amount at an even better than expected price.
(As for the name, many of their vines are trained on a quadrilateral cordon trellis, commonly known as “Double T.”)
Here’s how they describe it:
Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot provide the backbone for this lovely blend. Malbec brings color, red fruit characters and a hint of floral. Merlot adds a lively spice and herbal character with Cabernet Franc offering finesse and a peppery perfume. Aromas of lush, summer blackberries, brambly cassis, complemented by white pepper, clove, and baking spices are framed by sweet vanilla oak. Juicy, ripe, black cherry and blackberry flavors excite the palate, and the wine finishes long, wrapped in cedar, cinnamon, and clove.
