Pecorino is an early ripening, thin-skinned native Italian grape, mainly grown in the Marche region and Northern Abruzzo, with a small amount in the surrounding regions.
Fun fact: It was historically enjoyed by mountain shepherds who used to drink it slightly fizzy (due to a second fermentation in the spring) with Pecorino cheese. It was therefore nicknamed uva delle pecore – “the grape of the sheep.”
The grape variety may be less well known in the UK than the cheese, but this is a delightful wine with plenty of style and character.
It’s organic certified too, which is nice.
